Rasbora trilineata
The scissortail rasbora is a larger, active Rasbora species from Southeast Asia with a deeply forked tail that opens and closes like scissors when swimming. It needs a long tank with open swimming space and a group of six or more for confidence. Peaceful but constantly on the move—not ideal with very shy or slow tankmates. Tolerates a wide temperature range. Egg scatterer among plants; no parental care. Good dither fish for medium peaceful cichlids in spacious aquaria.
Flake or pellets; frozen brine shrimp or daphnia; feed variety for silver sheen.
Frequency: 1–2× daily
Active metabolism—ensure food reaches mid-water in competitive community tanks.
Native Region: Southeast Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia—Mekong and Malay Peninsula)
Rivers and floodplain channels with vegetation and moderate flow.
Long footprint essential; planted sides with central swim lane; moderate current acceptable.

Schooling Size: 6+ recommended
Fast mid- to upper-water shoaling; tail movement distinctive; avoid tiny tankmates that stress easily.
